Mr Schwartz is a pretty funny writer as well. I also have “Handtool Essentials” which he wrote several pieces of – it’s also always at arms reach. Steve Latta shows how to create decorative veneer patterns. And the job that I thought would take two weeks handlane most ended up taking three entire months of my life during all waking hours.
Clear and even a little classy-feeling. But I kind of like understated presentations full of valuable information – have a look at “Make A Chair From A Tree” sometime, if you haven’t already. Learn how to make gleaming surfaces, tight joints and crisp moldings through perfect planing. The photos in Garrett Hack’s classic handplane book are more beautiful, I’d essetnials, but for me the text in Schwarz’s book is far more informative.
Also of great value is a collection of Schwarz’ tool reviews, discussing the merits of several bench planes, exotic planes, joinery planes, molding planes and specialty planes made by major manufacturers and individual craftsmen.

No woodworking tool is more satisfying, quick and precise to use than a handplane. I really like reading Christopher’s work and More time could be spent on the set up and use of wooden planes just afew mentions or the making and sharpening of moulding planes.
